Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Diagnostic Hub

The Quinte Children’s Treatment Centre (QCTC) is the publicly-funded provider of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments for Hastings and Prince Edward Counties and is a contracted partner of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Autism Diagnostic Hub.  The mandate of the QCTC Autism Diagnostic Hub is to provide standardized assessments completed by a multidisciplinary team, to either provide/rule out a diagnosis of ASD or to assist referring paediatricians in supporting or excluding a diagnosis of ASD.

REFERRALS CAN BE MADE BY:

  • Physicians
  • Nurse Practitioners

Please note that we are not able to accept referrals that are based solely on parent/caregiver report.  The referring practitioner must include their clinical observations with the referral in order for it to be considered.

Referral sources (if not the primary care practitioner) are asked to ensure that the child’s primary care practitioner has been informed of the referral and that all custodial parent(s)/guardian(s) are aware of and in agreement with a referral for ASD assessment prior to submitting.

Please note that the assessment may be delayed if the child or youth is experiencing an acute mental health exacerbation or if investigations that may have a significant impact on the assessment have not yet been completed (eg. hearing assessment).

IN ORDER FOR THE REFERRAL TO BE CONSIDERED;

  • Children and youth must be under the age of 16 years at the time the referral is made
  • Clinical observations and rationale that support the need for assessment must be provided by the referring practitioner
  • The child/youth must have been assessed by the referring practitioner in person prior to submitting a referral

**Please note that receipt of the referral does not guarantee acceptance.  Each referral will be considered based on the information provided as well as that gathered from parents, schools and day cares, as appropriate.  A letter will be sent to the referring practitioner and parent(s)/guardian(s) confirming the acceptance or refusal of the referral once a decision has been made.**
