Referrals for SBRS SLP

To refer for Eligibility Screen for SBRS Speech Therapy  (KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ONLY)**Please note that this is a new process, effective September 2024.**

As of September 2024, the Preschool Speech and Language (PSL) program (provided by
the Quinte Children’s Treatment Centre (QCTC) will now be offered only up until a child’s
entry to school. This is to ensure services are aligned to updated Ministry Guidelines. This
is a notable change, as historically QCTC has provided these services during a child’s
Junior Kindergarten (JK) year. Following school entry, further speech support may be
provided by the SBRS program with QCTC for more targeted supports.

In collaboration with our local school boards, an updated process has been developed to
address these changes. Effective fall 2024, QCTC speech-language pathologists (SLPs)
will complete eligibility screens for kindergarten students (JK and SK), to support
further referral to SBRS if required. We will be relying on our school board partners to
identify those children in kindergarten who demonstrate risk factors that may indicate a
need for targeted support. For kindergarten students, an assessment by the school
board SLP is no longer required in order to make a referral for this age group.

Schools may refer students to QCTC when concerns are identified by completing the
available referral package for the Eligibility Screen for SBRS SLP for Kindergarten Students.

The referral package includes:
